Projects in Asia
Azerbaijan
Mine detecting dog teams were used to enhance the capability of the local mine action authority.
Cambodia
Technical evaluation assessment of an international donor funded mine clearance project was provided to enhance local capability.
   Iran
Provision of mine awareness training for management staff visiting oilfields.
Kuwait
MineTech was deployed on a highly unusual project to clean up evaporation pits in the Wafra
oilfields, an area heavily contaminated with hydrocarbons. MineTech's role was to
verify the absence or presence of UXO within the pits, many of which were full of
oil sludge. In what is probably the first job of its kind in the industry, personnel
had to wade through the sludge using broad loop detectors, equipped with HS gas
monitors and gas masks to protect them from hydrogen sulphide gas poisoning. In
total over 2.5 million square metres were verified.
Laos
MineTech EOD teams have recently completed a three-year project working to clear unexploded
ordnance still in place from the Vietnam War for the Nam Theun II hydro-electric
project in Laos PDR. MineTech has also provided mine risk education, underwater EOD
clearance and training for local deminers. Personnel have overcome severe weather
conditions and cleared areas that have proved to be the most heavily contaminated
land ever encountered by MTI.
Sri Lanka
Level 2 surveys and clearance using mine detecting dogs and manual teams were carried out throughout the Jaffna peninsular.
