Global Project Examples
MineTech International has conducted extensive mine clearance and mine risk
education projects all over the world. Clients range from companies in the oil, gas
and construction industries to government bodies and non-governmental
organisations (NGOs).

Sample projects
Afghanistan
Present in Afghanistan since 2004 working on a variety of projects
for a diverse selection of clients ranging from international construction
and security companies to NGOs. The full range of the MineTech toolbox has been
deployed including mechanical, manual and canine clearance. Projects completed
and ongoing include demining and EOD clearance on infrastructure and
humanitarian projects.
Sudan
MineTech has recently been re-awarded several large-scale humanitarian contracts.
Based in several locations around the country MineTech is providing Mine Detection Dog
teams, mechanical and manual clearance teams, route assessment and rapid response
capabilities as well as Mine Risk Education. Local personnel have been trained as deminers,
drivers and support staff in several locations and all projects are overseen from the
office in Khartoum.
Kuwait
MineTech was deployed on a highly unusual project to clean up evaporation pits
in the Wafra oilfields, an area heavily contaminated with hydrocarbons. MineTech's role
was to verify the absence or presence of UXO within the pits, many of which were full
of oil sludge. In what is probably the first job of its kind in the industry, personnel
had to wade through the sludge, moving over unseen and uneven surfaces, whilst using broad
loop detectors. In addition the teams were equipped with H2S gas monitors and gas masks to
protect them from hydrogen sulphide gas poisoning. In total over 2.5 million square metres were
verified.
Lao PDR
MineTech EOD teams have recently completed a three-year project working to clear unexploded
ordnance still in place from the Vietnam War for the Nam Theun II hydro-electric project.
MineTech has also provided mine risk education, underwater EOD clearance and training for
local deminers. Personnel overcame severe weather conditions and steep jungle terrain to
clear areas that have proved to be the most heavily contaminated land ever encountered by
MineTech.
Lebanon
A fully integrated mine clearance solution was provided using
mechanical, Mine Detection Dog and manual clearance teams. Total
clearance of all minefields and random UXO along the border with Israel
successfully completed. Agricultural land is now being cultivated and
houses are being constructed on what were previously land mine fields.
Libya
Numerous contracts have been completed for a range of exploration companies working
across the country. Desk-top studies, surveys, EOD support and technical advice including
risk assessment were provided. On certain projects local personnel were trained as deminers
and mine awareness training was provided to crew members.
Uganda
An EOD supervisor was provided to carry out risk assessments, quality control checks
and implement clearance methods for local deminers.
Iraq
MineTech's reputation for rapid response led to a contract in Iraq shortly
after the end of hosilities for the provision of mine clearance, explosive ordnance
disposal and surveys in the south of the country.
Mozambique
Survey and clearance was undertaken in preparation of an 1800km powerline project. Mechanically
assisted mine clearance, Mine Detection Dogs and manual teams were used throughout Manica Province.
Further surveys and clearance took place on a number of roads and machines were used in advance of
seismic acquisition in the Temane Block. Flails were also used to prepare the ground in advance
of mine clearance activities.
Nicaragua
MineTech rapidly deployed manual and mine detecting dog teams to search for and clear mines and
UXO following the devastation caused by Hurricane Mitch.
Yemen
MineTech conducted survey and clearance of seismic lines, pipelines and construction sites for oil
companies and geophysical contractors. In addition, training and quality control was given to Yemen's
military mine clearers on behalf of oil companies.
