Ordnance Disposal Projects
Angola
Mine and UXO clearance teams were provided to clear 5000 km of roads.
Egypt
MineTech was responsible for the supervision and training of local UXO and mine clearance contractors as part of a
seismic acquisition project in the western desert.
Iraq
Immediately after the cessation of hostilities, MineTech's reputation for rapid response
led to a contract with the UN for mine clearance, explosive ordnance
disposal and surveys in the south of the country. Subsequently MineTech
has provided mini-flails for the UN in northern Iraq, UXO detection and
clearance of reconstruction sites north of Baghdad and armed security
teams for various clients. MineTech currently provides over 30 EDD teams
in Baghdad for numerous security contractors.
Kuwait
MineTech was deployed on a highly unusual project to clean up evaporation pits in the Wafra
oilfields, an area heavily contaminated with hydrocarbons. MineTech's role was to
verify the absence or presence of UXO within the pits, many of which were full of
oil sludge. In what is probably the first job of its kind in the industry, personnel
had to wade through the sludge using broad loop detectors, equipped with H&sub2;S gas
monitors and gas masks to protect them from hydrogen sulphide gas poisoning. In
total over 2.5 million square metres were verified.
Laos
MineTech EOD teams have recently completed a three-year project working to clear unexploded
ordnance still in place from the Vietnam War for the Nam Theun II hydro-electric
project in Laos PDR. MineTech has also provided mine risk education, underwater EOD
clearance and training for local deminers. Personnel have overcome severe weather
conditions and cleared areas that have proved to be the most heavily contaminated
land ever encountered by MTI.
Lebanon
MineTech successfully cleared random UXO along the border with Israel.
Libya
MineTech has completed several projects in Libya including Battle Area Clearance (BAC) in
advance of seismic acquisition, mine and UXO clearance, training local
spotters, and UXO risk awareness training. MineTech is currently
conducting UXO detection and clearance for an oil operator.
Oman
Battlefield area clearance teams conducted level 2 surveys and markings of UXO on a military
range prior to an oil exploration project.
Sudan
MineTech provided Mine Detection Dog (MDD) teams for an NGO conducting humanitarian
demining in southern Sudan. One of the key roles was to clear unpaved transport
routes to help facilitate the work of aid agencies and to facilitate the return
of internally displaced people and refugees.
Venezuela
Level 2 survey and clearance was carried out for both air and ground delivered UXO
from a military range prior to a seismic acquisition project.
