Training
MineTech has a rigorous selection process to
ensure all potential candidates at the front end of
mine clearance are properly equipped to do the job
safely and effectively. All of the training and
selection process takes place at headquarters in
Harare, which is augmented by a further training
period at the field training camp in
Mozambique.
Each member of the mine clearance team is
trained to use metal detectors, manual prodders and
trip-wire feelers to achieve the most favourable
outcome. Conventional 'prodding' techniques are
taught for use in heavily metal-contaminated sites.
Demining teams are taught task site layout and
marking. Training is also given in the use of
manual cutting tools for removal of vegetation in
mine clearance lanes and the use of excavating tools to
dig up the ground in clearance lanes.
Every member of the demining team undertakes
extensive training on the identification of mines
and mine fuses. General safety precautions and
drills for demining are taught as well as the use
and maintenance of personal protective
equipment.
In addition to manual mine clearance
methods, each member of the team is trained in
first aid, demolitions and communications. MineTech
teams are always supported on operations with fully
trained trauma paramedics.
